All-new Seat Arona revealed

Date: 27 June 2017   |   Author: Daniel Puddicombe

Seat has revealed its all-new Arona crossover ahead of its public debut at the Frankfurt motor show in September.

Set to rival the likes of the Nissan Juke, the Ibiza supermini-based crossover is part of what the Spanish brand calls a "new product offensive", having already launched the new Ibiza and facelifted Leon models this year.

The Ateca also joined the ranks last year and an as-yet unnamed large SUV will join the fray in 2018.

Petrol power comes courtesy of a three-cylinder 1.0-litre unit in 95hp and 115hp guises, plus a larger 150hp unit, while diesel options consist of the 1.6-litre unit in 95hp and 115hp forms.

Inside, the Arona features an 8in touchscreen infotainment system, a wireless mobile phone charger, and Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and MirrorLink smartphone connectivity devices.

The Arona is 79mm longer than the Ibiza it shares its platform with and is 99mm taller than the recently-launched supermini, which Seat claims increases headroom.

Bootspace, meanwhile, is rated at 400 litres - a hike over the Ibiza's 292-litre capacity; main rival the Nissan Juke has bootspace of 354 litres.

Standard driving assistance systems consist of adaptive cruise control, hill hold control, a tiredness recognition system, a rear camera and a multi-collision braking tool. Optional systems include rear traffic alert, a blind spot detection system and a parking assistance tool.

"We at Seat are very persistent," said president Luca de Meo. "With our biggest product offensive, by the time the large SUV reaches the market, Seat will have launched, on average, a new vehicle every six months in two and a half years."
