All-new Vauxhall Crossland X revealed

Date: 18 January 2017   |   Author: Daniel Puddicombe

The new Vauxhall Crossland X crossover has been revealed ahead of its arrival in the UK this summer.

Set to take on the likes of Renault Captur and Peugeot 2008, the Crossland X represents the second pillar in the company's SUV offering, sitting alongside the Mokka X and below the forthcoming larger Grandland X.

Engine and pricing information has not been revealed at this stage, with both being announced closer to the car's launch, likely to be at this year's Geneva Motor Show.

Significantly shorter than the Astra hatchback, Vauxhall claims the Crossland X is more suited to urban driving compared with the big-selling hatch, while the Crossland X's occupants will also sit 10cm higher than in the Astra.

Vauxhall claims the Crossland X has class-leading luggage capacity of 410 litres, further enhancing the model's family credentials. Drop the seats and this goes up to 1,255 litres. The sliding rear seats can also be moved forwards or backwards by up to 150mm, depending on whether the occupants want to prioritise luggage space or rear leg room.

Driver assistance systems fitted to the Crossland X as standard include a 180-degree rear-view camera, parking sensors, autonomous emergency braking, lane departure warning and traffic sign recognition.

The company's personal assistant system, OnStar is standard on all models, as  is the Intellilink media system, controlled from an eight-inch touchscreen, and which is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto systems.

"Crossland X is as multi-talented as it is stylish," said Rory Harvey, Vauxhall's chairman and managing director. "It will appeal to buyers with families who demand agility and convenience in urban driving, but with enough comfort and performance to cover long distances at the drop of a hat. Our customers' expectations are changing, so the timing is perfect for an additional model in the Vauxhall range, which caters for a new breed of buyer."
