All-new Volvo XC60 SUV revealed

Date: 07 March 2017   |   Author: Daniel Puddicombe

Volvo has revealed its second-generation XC60 SUV, nine years after the original model was launched.

From launch, the model will be powered four engines - two petrol and two diesels. The diesel  2.0-litre unit offers two power outputs - 190hp and 232hp - while the petrol options consist of a 251hp 2.0-litre engine and the firm's 407hp T8 plug-in hybrid model.

Efficiency information has not been revealed at the time of writing.

Volvo claimed the new model, shown for the first time at the Geneva motor show, is one of the safest cars ever made thanks to it being "fully loaded" with technology. New systems to be featured include a steering assistance function, which works with a number of existing driver assistance tools.

They include the firm's semi-autonomous tool, Pilot Assist, which can take care of steering, acceleration and braking at up to 80mph on what Volvo described as "well-marked roads".

The steering assistance tool is also used by the firm's blind spot indication system to reduce the risk of lane-changing collisions, the Swedish firm said.

"We have a strong heritage in designing stylish and dynamic SUVs that offer the latest in technology. The new XC60 will be no exception. It's the perfect car for an active lifestyle, and it represents the next step in our transformation plan," said Hakan Samuelsson, president and chief executive, Volvo Car Group.
