Average CO2 emissions down to 115g/km at Fleet Alliance

Date: 19 July 2017   |   Author: Daniel Puddicombe

Leasing company Fleet Alliance has seen its average fleet carbon emissions fall to 115g/km of CO2 as corporate buyers increasingly turn to green models.

Fleet Alliance says carbon emissions have declined by 6.5% over the last three years, from 123g/km in 2014 to 115g/km now.

The majority (57%) of vehicles in the 25,000-strong fleet emit between 101?129g/km of CO2, with 21% emitting between 75-100g/km of CO2 and just 2% below 75g/km.

At the other end of the scale, 5% of the fleet emits more than 160g/km of CO2, which the firm said reflects how much the market has changed as buyers increasingly look to lease less polluting vehicles for tax and environmental reasons.

According to Fleet Alliance, the greenest vehicle on its fleet is the Volkswagen Golf GTE, with average CO2 emissions of 40.6g/km of CO2, followed by the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV - the UK's most popular ultra-low-emission vehicle - with the BMW 530e plug-in hybrid rounding out the top three.

"Carbon emissions are falling across our entire fleet and by 30 June had fallen to an average of 115g/km, the lowest we have seen so far," said Fleet Alliance managing director Martin Brown. "We expect this to fall still further in the second half of the year as more clients switch to greener cars, not only to cut their carbon footprints but to reduce their tax and fuel bills, too."

He added: "We are seeing many more new green models, especially plug-in hybrids, coming through from the vehicle manufacturers with ever-lower carbon emissions across all popular model ranges. The fact that many of the cleanest models on our fleet are now hybrids is in line with the national trend, which has seen the uptake of hybrid vehicles grow at a rapid rate in the last 12-18 months."
