The start point for the best source of fleet information

BusinessCar is on the hunt for a news reporter

Date: 28 September 2017

BusinessCar and What Van? are on the hunt for a News Reporter to join the titles' growing team of journalists.

Part of Compelo, BusinessCar is a fortnightly B2B publication for company car managers and executives with responsibility for fleet and travel operations within their organisation.

As well as a bi-weekly magazine we also run a number of key events throughout the year and are in the process of launching a new website. Working across both digital and print platforms is an essential part of this role, as is working to tight deadlines.

Published monthly, What Van? is recognised as the light commercial vehicle industry's leading title, providing independent and forthright editorial content that covers news, test drives and analyses of the products, services and legislation that shape the sector.

This is a great opportunity for a driven and creative journalist who is looking for a challenge and enjoys the fast-paced nature of the motoring industry.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Attending a variety of car and van industry events including conferences, motor shows and new vehicle launches in the UK and abroad
  • Conducting interviews with senior industry personnel
  • Supporting the BusinessCar and What Van? editorial teams
  • Creating relevant news ideas for BusinessCar and What Van? readers
  • Helping to drive traffic to our digital channels through engaging content
  • Building relationships with the publications' readers and automotive suppliers
  • Taking responsibility for newsletters and social media channels
  • Subbing and fact-checking pages where required.

This is a very busy role that will see the right person working across a variety of topics and platforms. The successful candidate will already have experience or a very recent qualification in journalism; experience in a B2B publication is preferred but not essential.

First-rate organisation and communication skills are a must, along with a full UK driving licence.

We are a small team and the right candidate will need to be self-sufficient and used to working to tight deadlines. Although our offices are based in Kent, you should expect to be out on the road often (flexible working is available for the right person).

Putting the fleet manager at the centre of everything we do is key to writing for BusinessCar and the News Reporter will need to strike the right balance between being insightful and informative, while also displaying creative flair and writing news stories and road tests that engage with our readers.

Interested?

Then send a CV and a covering letter explaining why you are the ideal candidate, along with three examples of your recent work, to debbie.wood@businesscar.co.uk. The closing date for applications is Monday 16 October.
