Fleets wanted for TRL tailgating study

Date: 20 March 2017   |   Author: Daniel Puddicombe

The Transport Research Laboratory is looking for fleets to take part in a free pilot scheme to target tailgating.

Funded by the Road Safety Trust, the research centre is looking for young male drivers who undertake regular driving in cars or goods vehicles.

Selected drivers will take part in a number of activities over the eight-week-long course, including:

  • A 90-minute workshop exploring the behaviours behind tailgating, including the triggers and consequences.
  • Packs and tests to record progress made during the study period.
  • A 50-minute conference at the end of the trial to review drivers' progress.

TRL claimed the course will offer safer driving conditions for staff with reduced chances of being involved in accidents.

Following the trial, TRL will analyse driver data and provide a report to the RST evaluating the effectiveness of the trial, with the report also being sent to employers.

The trial runs until the end of April. To register your interest in the trial, email Steve Willis, swillis@trl.co.uk, or Samantha Jones, sjones@trl.co.uk or phone 01235 911016.
