Go Ultra Low Cities infrastructure begins in Milton Keynes

Date: 30 November 2017

The first electric vehicle charging points for the Milton Keynes Go Ultra Low Cities infrastructure programme have been installed at head office and UK distribution centre of Carlton Packaging.

Forming part of a Part of £2.3 million investment in additional charging infrastructure in the city, the four Chargemaster 7kW fast chargers are already in daily use by the company's vehicles.

Carlton Packaging director, Alan Magee, said: "We recognise the need for sustainable development and continually aim to improve the environmental effect of our activities. We are focused on reducing our emissions, which led us to introduce electric vehicles into our fleet, and installing EV charging points allows us to get the maximum environmental benefit from them.

"Following Milton Keynes becoming one of the UK's first Go Ultra Low Cities, and the opening of our latest 65,000 square-foot distribution centre, we were keen to work with Milton Keynes Council to become one of the first companies to offer workplace charging to our employees."

Brian Matthews, head of transport innovation at Milton Keynes Council, said: "It's great to see the first charging points for our infrastructure programme already installed, and we are very pleased with how much interest it has already generated from surrounding businesses."

David Martell, CEO of Chargemaster, added: "Workplace charging plays an important role in helping reduce emissions from fleet, visitor and employee vehicles, and we encourage all local businesses to look at how they can support electric vehicle usage. We have seen a dramatic expansion in the number of businesses looking to install charging points at their premises, and any business not already investigating them will soon feel left behind."
