UPDATED: Latest AFR rates for March 2017 announced

Date: 28 February 2017   |   Author: Debbie Wood

HM Revenue and Customs has published the latest advisory fuel rates, due to be implemented from 1 March.

Rates of reimbursement for all diesel models have remained unchanged since last announced in December - apart from the those with an engine over 2,000cc - which increased by 2p, while petrol cars with an engine over 2000cc have had rates reduced by 1p per mile, all petrol engines below this figure remain the same.

For those companies that use LPG, rates for cars over 2000cc have increased by 1ppm.

The rates apply to all journeys made on or after 1 March until further notice.  However, for one month from the date of change, employers may choose to use either the previous or new rates.

Since March 2011 the rates have been reviewed four times a year. HMRC will no longer consider changing the rates - outside of the four scheduled reviews - unless fuel prices fluctuate by more than 5% from the published rates.

The new rates are as follows.

Diesel:

1600cc  or  less: 9p (no change)

1601cc  to  2000cc: 11p (no change)

Over  2000cc: 13p (no change)

Petrol:

1400cc  or  less: 11p (no change)

1401cc  to  2000cc: 14p (no change)

Over  2000cc: 22p (up by 1p)

LPG:

1400cc  or  less: 7p (no change)

1401cc  to  2000cc: 9p (no change)

Over  2000cc: 14p (up by 1p)
