New Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross SUV set for 2017 Geneva debut

First full images of the all-new Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross SUV, as well as further details, have been revealed ahead of the car's global debut at the forthcoming 2017 Geneva Motor Show.
Mitsubishi's new SUV will sit somewhere between the recently revised ASX small SUV and the much larger Outlander, the plug-in hybrid version of which is proving to be exceptionally popular among company car buyers.
This will put it up against some very capable rivals, including the Nissan Qashqai - the car that's generally considered to be the progenitor of the SUV/crossover boom - as well as the likes of the Seat Ateca and the Ford Kuga.
Engine-wise, the new model will be powered by the firm's 1.5-litre petrol and 2.2-litre four-cylinder diesel engines. Pure petrol power is likely to be less popular, but given the success of the larger Outlander PHEV variant, there could well be a plug-in hybrid version of the Eclipse Cross on the way.
Petrol models will come with a CVT automatic transmission as standard, which comes with an eight-speed manual override setting, while diesel models will benefit from a specially-developed eight-speed automatic gearbox. All cars will come with Mitsubishi's complex four-wheel drive system as standard, though a two-wheel drive petrol model will also be offered.
The car features sharp crease down the flanks that runs through the door handles all the way to the rear light clusters. You'll also notice the sloping roofline, chrome window surround and steeply raked rear window, as well as sharp LED running light graphics and a heavily creased bonnet.
At the back, there's also the sharp rear light clusters, which are connected by a thin line of lights that stretch right across the car's tailgate and incorporate the car's high-level brake light.
Inside, the car features smartphone connectivity, including Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Meanwhile a head-up display is alsoavailable, which will, according to Mitsubishi, make driving safer by putting key information directly in the driver's eyeline.
Instead of a touchscreen, the car's new Smartphone Link Display Audio infotainment system will be controlled from a touchpad in the centre console.
Prices and equipment levels for the Eclipse Cross will be announced closer to the car's on-sale date, which is set to be in early 2018 but expect it to sit between the ASX and Outlander in terms of pricing.
Mitsubishi also announced it will showcase the eX concept - an electric compact crossover showcar, though no further information is available at this stage.
