Plug-in hybrid Mini Countryman to cost from £31,585

Date: 03 March 2017   |   Author: Daniel Puddicombe

Mini has confirmed its first plug-in hybrid model, the Cooper S E Countryman, will be priced from £31,585, excluding any Government grants, when it arrives in the UK in June.

The car is powered by the firm's three-cylinder petrol unit, which is mated an electric motor, offering a total output of 224hp.

Its CO2 emissions are rated at 49g/km - placing it in the lowest 9% 2017/18 BIK band - while Mini claimed the car can return 134.5mpg on the official cycle.

Mini said the charging time takes between 2.15 hours and 3.15 hours depending on the speed of the unit, and that the model is capable of travelling up to 25 miles on electric power.

The motor has been placed underneath the rear seat and boot floor in order to minimise the impact it has on boot space and legroom. Luggage space is rated at 405 litres with the rear seats up (compared with 450 for the non-plug-in hybrid version) and 1,275 litres with the rear seats down (a drop of 115 litres compared with the standard model).

Standard kit includes the firm's sat-nav system, Bluetooth, cruise control and an exclusive 17-inch alloy wheel design.

There are also various design nods to differentiate the model from the rest of the range, including an 'E' emblem on the radiator grille and door sill as well as a yellow 'S' logo, while inside hybrid-specific displays are featured to indicate it is the eco model.
