Subaru adds EyeSight driver assistance technology to Forester

Subaru has added its EyeSight advanced driver assistance technology as standard to its Forester SUV.
The Forester is the third model in the range to receive the technology after the Levorg and XV.
According to Subaru, the device "acts as a second pair of eyes for the driver" and depending on the vehicle's speed can completely avoid or reduce the severity of high-speed accidents.
Subaru added that EyeSight was also developed to lower emissions by reducing incident congestion and the economic impacts of sitting in traffic.
EyeSight has two stereo cameras mounted on each side of the rear-view mirror that use image recognition to capture three-dimensional colour images with clinical precision. The technology can distinguish vehicles, motorbikes, bicycles, pedestrians, lane markings and road furniture, differentiate between them and determine the general traffic conditions.
Subaru cited statistics from the Institute for Traffic Accident Research and Data Analysis in Japan, which claimed there were 61% fewer accidents involving EyeSight-equipped vehicles compared with those without.
EyeSight will be standard on all Forester XE Lineartronic and XE Premium Lineartronic models from October; the vehicles will also be equipped with a black shark fin antenna and DAB radio. Prices start from £28,995 on the road.
