Renault has confirmed pricing details for the flagship model in the Megane range.

Called the GT dCi 165 Auto EDC, it is priced from £27,740 and is available to order now.

The French manufacturer claims the model's powertrain - a 165hp, 1.6l diesel unit - is the most powerful 1.6l diesel engine available on the market today.

Capable of reaching 62mph in 8.8 seconds from a standstill, the top of the range variant returns 61.4mpg and emits 120g/km of CO2, placing it in the 26% 2017/18 BIK bracket.

Visually, GT models (a sporty petrol version is already available) are separated from the rest of the Megane range by a wider, lower air intake and 18in diamond cut alloy wheels.

Inside, the GT's seats feature a chequered logo, the upholstery options provide hints of blue and the chrome doorsill plates are adorned with the Renaultsport logo.

Standard equipment includes automatic climate control, LED daytime running lights, and a rear parking camera with front and rear parking sensors.

The multimedia system features an 8.7in touchscreen with access to a TomTom satnav with European maps pre-installed, DAB radio, Bluetooth and various vehicle apps.

In terms of safety equipment, the GT includes the Visio system - which incorporates lane departure warning and traffic sign recognition - hill start assist and adaptive cruise control.
