Two new Audi SUVs in the pipeline

Date: 11 April 2017   |   Author: Daniel Puddicombe

Audi has announced it will expand its Q-range of SUVs with the addition of two new models by 2019.

Production of the Q8 SUV will begin next year in Slovakia, while the first Q4 is planned to drive off the assembly line in Hungary a year later.

The Q8 will be based on a concept shown earlier this year (see image, above) and will rival the likes of the BMW X6 and Mercedes GLE Coupe, and is based on the Q7 large SUV's framework.

According to Audi, the design of the Q8 concept apes that of the firm's legendary 1980s Ur-Quattro four-wheel drive performance car. The German company previously claimed that the concept is a "near-production study" of the finished product.

Inside, it is claimed the Q8 will offer the latest in driver assistance technology and infotainment system.

The Q4, meanwhile, will sit between the Q3 and Q5 models and will have a "coupe-style silhouette", the brand said. It is likely to rival the forthcoming BMW X2 crossover.

"We will integrate two completely new Q-models into the existing production network and will thus increase our competitiveness in an extremely important segment," said Hubert Waltl, Audi's board member for production and logistics.
