New diesel engines for Mercedes-Benz A-Class

Date: 13 November 2018   |   Author: Sean Keywood

Mercedes-Benz has made two new diesel engines available with its A-Class small family car.

Both are 2.0-litre units, with one producing 150hp and the other 190hp.

Mercedes says the new engines are RDE-2 compliant, meaning company car drivers will not have to pay the 4% BIK tax surcharge that applies to other diesels.

The 150hp engine - badged 200 d - achieves an official combined fuel economy of 67.3mpg and CO2 emissions of 110g/km, while the 190hp engine - badged 220 d - has figures of 65.7mpg and 110g/km respectively.

Both engines come with an eight-speed automatic gearbox as standard.

They join the previously available 1.5-litre 116hp diesel engine in the range, along with five petrol engines producing between 136hp and 306hp.

The 200 d is available in Sport and AMG Line trim, while the 220 d is available with AMG Line cars only.

Prices are £28,805 for the A 200 d Sport, £30,005 for the A 200 d AMG Line, and £31,575 for the A 220 d AMG Line.
