Order books have opened for the new Ford Fiesta Active.

The new version of the bestselling supermini gets rugged, SUV-inspired styling and an increased ride height.

The range includes three trim options - Active 1, Active B&O Play and Active X.

All cars get roof rails, front fog lights and 17in alloy wheels as standard.

There's a choice of three drive modes - Eco, Normal and Slippery - and Ford's electronic stability programme with hill start assist.

Other standard equipment includes: lane-keeping technology; a heated windscreen; automatic headlights; a tyre pressure monitoring system; electric front and rear windows; rear privacy glass; driver seat height and lumbar adjustment; air conditioning, and Ford's Sync 3 communications and entertainment system, which is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Active B&O Play cars add equipment including a B&O Play sound system, cruise control, rain sensing wipers, auto-dimming rear-view mirror, a centre console with armrest and illuminated cup holders, and a 4.2in TFT instrument cluster screen with traffic sign recognition.

Active X trim also adds partial leather upholstery with heated front seats, power-foldable door mirrors with puddle lights, sat-nav, keyless entry and start, and a rear-view camera with rear parking sensors.

Engine options are a 1.0-litre petrol with either 85hp, 100hp, 125hp or 140hp, or a 1.5-litre diesel producing 85hp.

CO2 emissions start at 105g/km for petrol cars and 96g/km for the diesel.

Prices start at £17,790 for the Active 1, £19,190 for the Active B&O Play and £20,290 for the Active X.
