Fully electric Kia E-Niro launched

Kia has revealed the latest addition to its electrified Niro crossover range, with the covers taken off the fully electric E-Niro at the Paris motor show.
In Europe, buyers will be able to specify one of two powertrain options: a 64 kWh lithium-ion polymer battery pack, providing a driving range of up to 301 miles on a single charge, with up to 382 miles in city driving; or a 39.2 kWh battery pack, with a range of up to 193 miles on the WLTP combined cycle.
Models equipped with the long-distance 64 kWh battery pack use a 204hp motor, producing 395Nm (291lb-ft) of torque, enabling the E-Niro to accelerate from 0-62mph in 7.8 seconds. The standard 39.2 kWh battery pack has a 136hp motor, also producing 395 Nm torque, and accelerating from 0-62mph in 9.8 seconds.
Like the Niro Hybrid and Plug-in Hybrid variants, the new electric model is front-wheel drive.
With the battery pack mounted low in the car's body and between the axles, Kia promises handling more akin to a traditional hatchback rather than a higher-riding crossover.
Safety features include collision alert with autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control with traffic jam assistance, auto-dipping high-beam, driver attention monitoring, and lane-keeping assistance with the ability to keep a safe distance from the vehicle in front.
The E-Niro will go on sale later this year, with prices for the 39.2kWh version expected to start at around £33,000. The car is also expected to be eligible for the Plug-in Car Grant.
