Kia Rio to get sporty GT-Line trim option

Date: 24 January 2018   |   Author: Sean Keywood

Kia has revealed details of a new sports-inspired trim level for its Rio supermini.

The Rio GT-Line will come with exterior design features including 17in alloy wheels, a gloss-black and chrome grille, 'ice-cube' LED fog lights, LED daytime running lights, twin exhaust tips, chrome window trim, a gloss black roof spoiler and sill highlights.

The interior gets seats finished in black synthetic leather and cloth with contrasting grey stitching, a D-shaped leather steering wheel, metallic trim on door switches and the gear lever, and a carbon fibre-effect dashboard.

The GT-Line will go on sale in the spring with a 1.0-litre direct injection turbo petrol engine producing 118hp. Paired with a manual transmission, Kia claims it will achieve fuel economy figures of 60.1mpg and CO2 emissions of 107g/km.

From the third quarter of 2018, naturally aspirated 1.25-litre and 1.4-litre petrol engines will also be available, as will a seven-speed double clutch transmission.

Other features from the existing Rio range that will be available on the GT-Line include an optional 7in touchscreen with sat-nav and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility.

Also available are a rear-view parking camera, heated steering wheel and heated seats.

Available safety features include collision avoidance and lane departure warning systems, with lane keeping assist also set to be offered later this year.

The GT-Line will also be available with Kia's new driver attention warning system, which monitors driver inputs and sounds a warning if it detects a lapse in concentration.

Full UK specifications and prices are yet to be announced.

Kia's European chief operating officer Michael Cole said: "The Rio is one of Kia's best-selling cars globally, and we have already sold more than 54,000 units of the new model in Europe after it went on sale in the first quarter of 2017.

"The new GT-Line specification enhances the car's desirability and will help grow Rio sales in 2018 and beyond, thanks to its range of comfort and safety features, superb versatility, and confident, sporty styling."
