Mercedes-Benz A-Class Sedan announced

Date: 26 July 2018   |   Author: Sean Keywood

Mercedes-Benz is to introduce a four-door saloon version of its A-Class small family car.

Compared with the existing hatchback model, the new A-Class Sedan will be 130mm longer, at 4549mm, and 6mm taller, at 1446mm. The boot capacity is to be increased by 50 litres to 420 litres.

Mercedes claims that with the Sedan's long rear end improving airflow over the body, it will have the lowest aerodynamic drag of any car on sale.

Two engines will be available from launch, both carried over from the existing hatchback range - a 163hp 1.3-litre petrol and a 116hp 1.5-litre diesel, both paired with a seven-speed automatic gearbox.

Mercedes says official combined fuel economy for the petrol will be between 52.3mpg and 54.3mpg, with CO2 emissions between 124g/km and 119g/km.

The respective figures for the diesel are between 65.7mpg and 70.6mpg, and between 113g/km and 107g/km.

Technology features are carried over from the A-Class hatchback, including the MBUX multimedia system accessed by a pair of 7.5in screens, which can be optionally upgraded to 10.25in.

Standard safety features include autonomous emergency braking and lane keep assist.

Style, Progressive and AMG Line trim levels will be available, along with a Night equipment package, among other options.

UK prices and specifications for the A-Class Sedan will be confirmed towards the end of this year, with the first deliveries expected in spring 2019.
