New Audi Q8 revealed

Date: 06 June 2018   |   Author: Sean Keywood

Audi has taken the wraps off its new Q8 large coupe-SUV.

The new car will be the flagship of Audi's SUV range and a rival to the likes of the BMW X6.

Compared with Audi's more conventional Q7 SUV, the Q8 is 35mm lower and 66mm shorter, but 27mm wider.

With a wheelbase of almost three metres, Audi says there is ample interior space for five, while the boot has a capacity of 605 litres, rising to 1,755 with the rear seat backrests folded down.

At launch there will be one engine available - a 3.0-litre diesel with 286hp, which comes paired with a 48V mild hybrid system.

An eight-speed automatic gearbox sends drive to all four wheels.

Another 3.0-litre diesel with 231hp and a 3.0-litre petrol with 340hp are set to follow early next year.

The Q8's interior features Audi's virtual cockpit system as standard, with a 12.3in driver information display alongside a central double touchscreen arrangement with a 10.1in screen above an 8.6in display.

Cars in S Line trim will come with HD Matrix LED headlights, 21in alloy wheels and adaptive air suspensions as standard, while cars in the higher-end Vorsprung trim, due shortly after launch, will gain dynamic all-wheel steering, 22in alloy wheels, a head-up display and a full leather package.

A wide range of driver assistance systems will be available, including adaptive cruise control and emergency assist, with the latter detecting if the driver is unresponsive and bringing the car to a stop in its lane if so.

The Q8 is set to arrive in the UK this summer. Prices are yet to be confirmed.
