Date: 24 October 2018   |   Author: Sean Keywood

Skoda has announced details of its new family hatchback.

Called the Scala - pictured here in prototype form - it is designed to sit between the Fabia and Octavia in Skoda's range.

According to the manufacturer, interior space is close to the Octavia, while there is a 467 litre boot.

Engine options will be a 1.0-litre petrol with 95hp or 115hp, a 1.5-litre petrol with 150hp, and a 1.6-litre diesel with 115hp.

The 95hp engine comes with a five-speed manual gearbox, while the others come with a six-speed manual as standard, and a seven-speed automatic as an option.

An optional Virtual Cockpit set-up with a 10.25in display, and an infotainment screen measuring up to 9.2in will be available with the Scala.

Other options will include: full LED headlights and tail lights; an electrically retractable tow bar; an adjustable sport chassis with a 15mm lower ride height; adaptive cruise control; a self-parking system; and a side assist system that notifies the driver when a vehicle is approaching from behind to overtake or is in the driver's blind spot.

Autonomous emergency braking will be standard.

The Scala is expected to arrive in the first half of 2019. Prices and full UK specifications are yet to be revealed.
