New Volvo S60 revealed

Date: 25 June 2018   |   Author: Sean Keywood

Volvo has taken the wraps off its new S60 saloon.

The arrival of the new S60 follows the launch of its sister car, the V60 estate, earlier this year.

Unlike the V60, no diesel engines will be offered. Instead, the S60 will come with a choice of two petrol plug-in hybrid powertrains, along with two conventional petrol engines.

Safety technology includes City Safety with Autobrake, which helps the driver avoid potential collisions, and according to Volvo is the only system of its type on the market to recognise pedestrians, cyclists and large animals.

In what the manufacturer claims is a world first for a mid-sized saloon, the system also engages automatic braking to mitigate oncoming collisions.

The optional Pilot Assist system - which supports the driver with steering, acceleration and braking on well-marked roads up to 80mph - has been upgraded with improved cornering performance.

The new S60 also includes Run-off Road Mitigation, Oncoming Lane Mitigation and other steering-assistance systems, while Cross-Traffic Alert with automatic braking is also available as an option.

Infotainment is via the Sensus Connect system, which is fully compatible with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and 4G.

The S60 will be built at a new factory in Charleston, South Carolina, becoming the first Volvo made in the US.

UK prices and specifications have yet to be confirmed.
