Nissan announces new Qashqai tech alongside EV plans

Date: 06 March 2018   |   Author: Sean Keywood

Nissan is to add its ProPilot driver assistance system to its Qashqai SUV.

The manufacturer made the announcement at the Geneva Motor Show, where it also revealed plans to offer electrified powertrains within the next generation of its crossover vehicles.

ProPilot was initially introduced in the new Leaf electric car. It controls the distance to the vehicle in front and steers the vehicle to help the driver stay in the centre of a lane.

ProPilot is a product of Nissan's Intelligent Mobility vision for the future, along with the crossover electrification plan, and builds on the success of the new Leaf, which has now passed 19,000 orders in Europe.

Nissan also revealed a partnership with energy company E.ON to explore opportunities for pilot activities and commercial offers related to vehicle-to-grid services, renewable energy generation and storage solutions, as well as grid integration for Nissan electric vehicle customers.

Nissan says the partnership will advance its ambition to offer free power to its electric vehicle drivers.

Ponz Pandikuthira, Nissan's European vice-president for product planning, said: "As the world's leading EV manufacturer, Nissan is committed to helping consumers and businesses create a more sustainable future for society.

"Through our Nissan Intelligent Mobility vision, we are transforming the way our customers live, move and change their sustainability footprint on the planet.

"Today's announcements are the next steps to providing a fully integrated electric ecosystem aligned to Nissan Intelligent Mobility."
