Polar network increases number of London rapid chargers

Date: 21 March 2018   |   Author: Sean Keywood

The UK's largest electric vehicle (EV) charging network has announced it now has more than 70 rapid chargers inside the M25.

The chargers are part of the Polar network run by Chargemaster.

This includes 18 rapid chargers within two miles of the M25, covering half of all junctions, and within a maximum of one junction from all the motorway's service stations.

Chargemaster says the increased number of rapid chargers is of particular use to drivers who do not have off-street parking, and those driving into and out of London.

The network also has hundreds of destination chargers in London, including many on-street locations, and the electricity used has been certified by OVO Energy as 100% renewable.

Chargemaster is also involved in the Transport for London rapid charging network, which particularly supports drivers of the new LEVC electric taxis.

Chargemaster chief executive David Martell said: "Over the next two years, Chargemaster will be investing some £50 million in the expansion of the Polar network to ensure that it remains the most reliable and comprehensive charging network for EV drivers in the UK.

"The recent increase in provision within the M25 shows the speed of expansion that we will be maintaining to keep pace with the fast-growing electric car market."
