Prices and specs revealed for new VW Touareg

Date: 25 June 2018   |   Author: Sean Keywood

Volkswagen's new third-generation Touareg SUV has gone on sale in the UK.

The flagship model in VW's SUV range, the new Touareg is initially being offered with a 3.0-litre, 286hp diesel engine, paired with an eight-speed automatic gearbox and four-wheel drive.

Official combined fuel economy is 42.8mpg and CO2 emissions are 173g/km.

The launch engine will be followed in the autumn by a 231hp version of the same powertrain, and a 3.0-litre 340hp petrol engine in late-2018.

Compared with the previous Touareg, the new model is 77mm longer and 44mm wider, but with a roofline lowered by 7mm, which VW says gives the car a more dynamic appearance.

Maximum boot capacity is 810 litres with the rear seats up or 1,800 litres with them down.

Further aiding practicality, the rear seats can be shifted forward and backward by 160mm as required, while the angle adjustment of the rear seat backrests is also variable in three stages, and by up to 21 degrees.

Driver assistance systems include a Night Vision thermal imaging camera, Traffic Jam and Roadwork Lane Assist and Front Cross Traffic Assist.

Also fitted are active all-wheel steering and a new roll stabilisation system with electromechanically controlled anti-roll bars.

Available as an option is the Innovision Cockpit, which features a 12in digital instrument display merged with a 15in infotainment touchscreen.

Also available as an option is a panoramic sliding roof, which at 1,270mm long and 825mm wide is the largest yet offered by VW.

Also optional are electrically adjustable front seats with a new pneumatic massage function.

Three trim levels are available - SEL, R-Line and R-Line Tech.

Prices start from £51,595 for the SEL, rising to £55,095 for the R-Line and £58,195 for the R-Line Tech.
