Seat introduces Amazon Alexa voice control

Date: 03 August 2018   |   Author: Sean Keywood

Seat has begun adding Amazon Alexa voice control functionality to its vehicles.

Available now in the UK on models of the Leon small family car and Ateca SUV (where sat-nav is specified), the feature is available to Android device users by downloading the Android Seat Media Control with the Amazon Alexa app.

Seat says it will give drivers access to a host of functions through voice commands without having to take their eyes off the road: users merely have to press a control button on the steering wheel and issue instructions.

Available functions include managing the driver's personal schedule, playing music, navigating to points of interest, requesting personalised news and finding the nearest Seat dealership.

Seat says the move makes it the first car manufacturer in Europe to offer Alexa with its vehicles.

Seat president Luca de Meo said: "As functionality and connectivity levels increase, we have to find a balance between usability and safety.

"Introducing Alexa helps us find that balance. With just a tap of the steering wheel, customers will be able to ask Alexa for music, points of interest and much more without taking eyes off the road."
