Skoda introduces Virtual Cockpit display

Date: 08 October 2018   |   Author: Sean Keywood

Skoda has launched a new, fully programmable digital instrument panel as an option on several of its cars.

The Virtual Cockpit - similar to systems previously rolled out across other Volkswagen Group brands - is available now with the Karoq, Octavia and Superb, and will also be introduced for the Kodiaq later this year.

Featuring a TFT display designed for 3D graphics, it replaces traditional instruments and can show five basic layouts individually programmed by the driver.

The Classic layout has a rev counter and speedometer to the right and left of the display, and a configurable area in-between that can show options like the current entertainment programme or sat-nav map, which also has a zoom function.

The Extended layout has the likes of the entertainment info or map covering the entire width of the panel, with small digital information displays above and below for information such as current speed and gear recommendation.

The Modern layout centralises the map or other such display, with additional information to the sides or above.

The Basic layout features two large displays - such as current speed and distance remaining - with added information above and below, while the Sports layout has a single central dial with the speedometer and rev counter, with space for extra customisable information on either side.

The system costs £450 to specify with Octavia and Superb models from SE trim upwards, and with Karoq models from SE L trim upwards.

On the Kodiaq, it will cost £450 with Sportline, Edition and L&K trims, and £550 with SE L and Scout trims.
