Date: 22 August 2018   |   Author: Sean Keywood

Volvo has made three new engine options available with its XC40 SUV.

The new engines are a 1.5-litre, 156hp petrol, badged as T3; a 2.0-litre, 190hp petrol - T4 - and a 2.0-litre, 150hp diesel - D3.

The T3 comes with front-wheel drive and a six-speed manual gearbox, with an eight-speed automatic option to be introduced at a later date.

Official combined fuel economy and CO2 emissions data will vary depending on wheel size, but start at 45.6mpg and 144g/km.

The T4 comes with four-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic gearbox as standard, with economy and emissions from 48.7mpg and 161g/km.

The D3 is available with front-wheel drive and a manual gearbox, or with front- or four-wheel drive as an automatic.

Economy and emissions figures are from 58.9mpg and 127g/km for a front-wheel drive manual, 56.5mpg and 131g/km for a front-wheel drive automatic, and 52.3mpg and 141g/km for a four-wheel drive automatic.

The new engines join the existing 2.0-litre, 190hp D4 diesel and 2.0-litre, 247hp T5 petrol in the XC40 line-up.

Available trim options are Momentum, R-Design and Inscription, which can all be specced with an optional Pro upgrade.

Prices start from £27,610 for a T3 Momentum manual and rise to £37,620 for a T5 Inscription Pro automatic.
