VW Touareg now on sale with second engine option

Date: 10 August 2018   |   Author: Sean Keywood

Volkswagen has made a less powerful diesel engine option available with its Touareg SUV.

The 3.0-litre, 231hp engine joins the 3.0-litre, 286hp unit which has been available since the new Touareg was launched in June.

Official combined fuel economy and CO2 emissions figures are the same for both engines - 42.8mpg and 173g/km respectively.

Both engines come as standard with an eight-speed automatic gearbox, four-wheel drive and a limited slip differential.

The new engine, which has a peak torque figure of 500Nm, also retains the 286hp unit's towing capacity of 3,500kg.

Although there are no efficiency savings, new engine Touaregs are cheaper to buy and are available with all three trim levels in the range.

Prices start at £48,995 with entry-level SEL trim, and rise to £52,495 with R-Line trim, and £55,595 with range-topping R-Line Tech trim; compared with £51,595, £55,095 and £58,195 respectively with the launch engine.
