New Mercedes-Benz GLS revealed

Mercedes-Benz has unveiled an all-new version of its largest SUV.
The new GLS is even bigger than its predecessor, standing 5,207mm long and 1,956mm wide, with a wheelbase of 3,135mm - extensions of 77mm, 22mm and 60mm respectively.
The new GLS comes as a seven-seater, or as a six-seater with two individual seats replacing the bench in the second row.
Infotainment is via the Mercedes MBUX system, operating on two 12.3in screens, which includes gesture recognition.
Rear seat infotainment is available as an option, via either a 7in tablet or a pair of 11.6in touchscreens.
Five-zone climate control is standard.
Details of one engine option have been announced - a 330hp diesel that Mercedes says will offer combined fuel economy of 35.8-37.2mpg, and CO2 emissions of 201-208g/km.
Nine-speed automatic transmission is standard, as is Airmatic air suspension.
Safety systems include: active distance assist, which is able to slow the car as a precaution when live traffic information predicts jams ahead; and stop-and-go assist, which when the car is in a jam is able to stop the car and wait for up to a minute, before automatically setting off again when the vehicle in front moves.
Also standard is a Carwash function, which prepares the car for washing by raising the suspension, folding in the mirrors, closing the windows and sunroof, turns off the rain-sensing wipers and switches the climate control to air recirculation mode.
The new GLS is set to go on sale during the third quarter of 2019. Prices are yet to be confirmed.
