Date: 30 August 2019   |   Author: Sean Keywood

The latest Advisory Fuel Rates (AFRs) have been published by HMRC, including reduced rates for larger petrol engines.

Compared with the previous rates, the rate for petrol engines between 1,401cc and 2,000cc has been cut by 1 pence per mile (ppm), as has the rate for petrol engines over 2,000cc.

The rate for diesel engines between 1,601cc and 2,000cc has also been cut by 1ppm, while the rate for LPG-powered engines between 1,401cc and 2,000cc has had a 1ppm increase.

All other rates are unchanged, including the Advisory Electricity Rate for pure electric cars, which remains at 4ppm.

Hybrid cars are treated as either petrol or diesel cars for AFR purposes.

The new rates apply from 1 September, however the previous rates can still be used for up to one month from the date the new rules apply.

The new rates are as follows:

Diesel:

1,600cc or less: 10ppm

1,601cc to 2,000cc: 11ppm

Over 2,000cc: 14ppm

Petrol:

1,400cc or less: 12ppm

1,401cc to 2,000cc: 14ppm

Over 2,000cc: 21ppm

LPG:

1,400cc or less: 8ppm

1,401cc to 2,000cc: 10ppm

Over 2,000cc: 14ppm
