Used cars 'taking longer to sell'

Date: 14 February 2019   |   Author: Sean Keywood

The length of time it took for the fastest selling used cars to be snapped up in January was far greater than in the previous month, according to data published by Indicata UK.

The used vehicle management service reports that the Dacia Sandero, Dacia Duster and Ford Ecosport were the fastest sellers, at an average of 48 days.

This was much longer than the fastest selling used car in December, when the Ford Ka took an average of just 32 days to find a buyer.

The 48 day figure is also the longest reported since Indicata started publishing the data four months ago, which it says suggests volumes have risen during the month and that consumer demand has softened slightly.

Indicata UK national business development manager Neil Gilligan said: "The number of average days to sell has risen considerably from December 2018 to January 2019, reinforcing [the observation] that used market dynamics have changed quite dramatically at the start of 2019.

"Dacia has been in our last four fastest-selling league tables, but it is the first time it has been at the top, but with not one but two models.

"Perhaps Dacia's double in January signals a shift in the used car market, with a greater focus on cost-conscious purchases as the economy continues to be unsettled by Brexit."
