HMRC publishes new AFRs with multiple reductions

Date: 22 February 2019   |   Author: Sean Keywood

New advisory fuel rates (AFRs) have been published by HMRC.

The rates, based on car engine size, apply from 1 March. However employers can use the previous ones up to one month after that date.

There are widespread reductions, with rates for all petrol cars, diesel cars with engines between 1,600cc and 2,000cc and over 2,000cc, and LPG cars with engines smaller than 1,400cc down by 1 pence per mile (ppm), and rates for other LPG-powered cars down by 2ppm.

Hybrid cars are treated as either petrol or diesel cars.

The rates are as follows:

Diesel:

  • 1,600cc or less: 10ppm
  • 1,601cc to 2,000cc: 11ppm
  • Over 2,000cc: 13ppm.

Petrol:

  • 1,400cc or less: 11ppm
  • 1,401cc to 2,000cc: 14ppm
  • Over 2,000cc: 21ppm.

LPG:

  • 1,400cc or less: 7ppm
  • 1,401 to 2,000cc: 8ppm
  • Over 2,000cc: 13ppm.

Advisory Electricity Rate: 4ppm
