Volvo hails true fleet sales boost

Date: 23 January 2019   |   Author: Sean Keywood

Volvo says a big increase in true fleet sales during the second half of 2018 helped it achieve its best UK annual sales performance for 28 years.

The firm saw a 16% increase in true fleet sales - excluding Motability, rental, retailer demonstrators and internal cars - between July and December.

These helped it break the overall 50,000 sales barrier in the UK, and achieve a 2.1% overall market share, making it the fastest growing premium brand.

Volvo attributes its fleet sales growth to new products such as the XC40 and the V60, a growing plug-in hybrid range and a restructured business sales team.

It says this helped it sell to 644 companies which hadn't purchased a Volvo during the previous four years.

Volvo UK head of business sales Steve Beattie said: "Our restructured business sales team clearly had a positive influence on sales last year, alongside the increased availability of models popular with fleet drivers.

"Our aim is to be the easiest manufacturer for fleets to deal with, so it's good to see this taking effect already.

"Notwithstanding the current challenges faced by the new car market, 2019 is going to be another exciting year for us.

"With an ambitious overall sales target of 60,000 cars within the next couple of years, Volvo is committed to growing its presence in the fleet market by delivering a seamless and unrivalled customer experience."
