Standard data SIM card added to new Volvos

Date: 01 August 2019   |   Author: Sean Keywood

Volvo has announced that all its new cars will now come as standard with a data SIM card.

The feature allows the driver and their passengers to access up to 100GB of data in a year, independently of their devices, and is available for the first 12 months at no extra cost.

The SIM card, provided by Vodafone, allows access to apps, real time traffic information and over-the-air updates for the car's sat-nav system.

It also facilitates safety alerts, receiving information when a nearby similarly-equipped Volvo has its hazard warning lights operating, or slippery road surfaces are encountered.

The SIM card also creates an onboard wi-fi hotspot that can be used by up to eight devices.

Automatic roaming covering 42 European countries and overseas territories is also included.

The SIM card is now included with all 2020 model year cars, and can be retrofitted to those already purchased.
