New Peugeot 2008 announced with electric powertrain option

Date: 20 June 2019   |   Author: Sean Keywood

Peugeot has revealed an all-new version of its 2008 small SUV, with an electric powertrain available as well as petrol and diesel engines.

The electric model, badged e-2008, pairs a 136hp motor with a 50kWh battery, said to be capable of covering 193 miles on a single charge on the official WLTP test cycle.

The battery will be capable of recharging to 80% capacity in 30 minutes using a 100kW rapid charger, and will fully charge using conventional 7.4kW and 11kW chargers in between eight hours and five hours.

The e-2008 is differentiated from the regular range by cosmetic tweaks such as a sparkling dichroic Peugeot badge and a body-coloured chequered front grille.

Drivers will be able to pre-set charging times, heating and air conditioning and check the vehicle's charge status remotely via the MyPeugeot app.

A range of new electric vehicle services are also being launched by Peugeot to coincide with the new model.

These include: home charging; a public charging pass; trip planning that will take into account charger locations; driver coaching; and a pass to rent a conventionally-engined car when required.

The other engine options with the new 2008 are 1.2-litre petrols with 100hp, 130hp and 155hp, and a 1.5-litre diesel with 100hp.

The 100hp engines come with a six-speed manual gearbox; the 130hp engine comes with either the manual or an eight-speed automatic; and the 155hp engine is auto-only.

The new 2008 is 14cm longer than the outgoing model at 4.3m, and features a 360-litre boot.

Onboard technology highlights include an updated version of Peugeot's i-Cockpit dashboard setup, featuring a new head-up display that projects information in hologram form close to the driver's eye line.

Depending on spec a 10in touchscreen with sat-nav will be available, while Apple Carplay and Android Auto connectivity come as standard across the range.

The range includes Active, Allure, GT Line and GT equipment grades.

Available driver assistance systems include a driver assist system with lane positioning assist, lane departure warning and adaptive cruise control.

Also available is: park assist, autonomous emergency braking, active lane keep assist, driver attention monitoring, automatic headlight dipping, traffic sign recognition and active blind spot monitoring.

The new 2008 and e-2008 are set to arrive in early 2020. Prices are yet to be announced.
