Ionity to install 350kW EV chargers at Extra motorway service stations

Date: 28 June 2019   |   Author: Sean Keywood

Electric vehicle (EV) charging company Ionity has agreed a deal to provide 350kW chargers at UK motorway service stations.

Ionity - a joint venture between Daimler, Ford, BMW and VW Group - is to install the chargers in partnership with Extra MSA Group.

The agreement will cover eight service stations, with up to six 350kW chargers installed at each.

The first facility is set to open at the new Extra services at junction 45 of the M1 later this year.

Ionity says its chargers are capable of topping up or charging vehicles in less than 20 minutes.

Ionity COO Marcus Groll said: "We are excited to be partnering with Extra to further expand our pan-European network.

"We are making e-mobility a practical alternative to motorists in the UK, greatly enhancing the ownership experience.

"It is fantastic to have Extra on board, helping us position charging stations at critical locations across the UK motorway network."

Extra CEO Andrew Long said: "We are pleased to have established a good working relationship with Ionity to deliver additional high power charge stations on the UK motorway network.

"Ionity can provide the latest charging technology as required for a new generation of electric vehicles, and such facilities will become an increasingly important part of all of Extra's 'umbrella branded' motorway service areas, inclusive of those within our pipeline of proposed new developments."
