Hyundai Kona gets hybrid powertrain

Hyundai is introducing a hybrid version of its Kona SUV.
Sitting alongside petrol, diesel and fully electric models in the Kona range, the new hybrid is set to pair a 1.6-litre, 105hp petrol engine with a 43.5hp electric motor, with a combined maximum output of 141hp (final figures yet to be confirmed).
Six-speed automatic transmission will be standard.
Among the features to be available with the hybrid Kona is the Blue Link connected vehicle system, which uses embedded telematics to allow drivers to remotely lock or unlock the vehicle via a smartphone app.
An eco-driving assist system will also be available. It uses sat-nav data to advise drivers when they can save fuel by coming off the throttle, in situations like approaching corners or road junctions.
The system will also perform predictive energy management, which manages the charge and discharge of the battery in uphill and downhill situations to maximise battery usage.
The Kona hybrid will go on sale in August. Prices and full UK specs are yet to be confirmed.
