UK's largest public EV rapid charging hub inaugurated

A public rapid charging hub for electric vehicles (EVs), said to be the largest in the UK, has been inaugurated by Milton Keynes Council and BP Chargemaster.
The hub, which operates on the Polar network, features eight 50kW rapid chargers supporting all standards of EV rapid charging, and is located just off junction 14 of the M1 at Milton Keynes Coachway.
It has three canopies to help drivers locate the rapid chargers and provide shelter, and offers access to the facilities at the main Coachway building, including a café.
The council, with contractor Ringway, designed and constructed the hub as part of its Go Ultra Low City programme, with funding from the Office for Low Emission Vehicles as part of a £9 million investment package for the area.
Milton Keynes Council's head of transport innovation Brian Matthews said: "We are very proud of this important new facility for EV drivers, both in Milton Keynes and those passing on a longer journey.
"The rapid charging hub is just one of the ways in which we are supporting EV drivers in Milton Keynes, with other initiatives including free parking with a Green Permit in most car parks, and our pledge to provide local charging points for residents who do not have off-street parking."
BP Chargemaster chief executive David Martell: "We are delighted to be operating what is now the UK's largest universal rapid charging hub, providing a fantastic, convenient place to charge for drivers travelling within and around Milton Keynes.
"The eight UK-made Ultracharge rapid chargers join the 300 Fastcharge and 65 rapid chargers that we already operate in the area, which has established itself as a centre of excellence for EV charging infrastructure."
