Jeep announces Renegade and Compass PHEVs

Date: 06 March 2019   |   Author: Sean Keywood

Jeep is to introduce plug-in hybrid (PHEV) versions of its Renegade and Compass SUVs.

Both will be powered by a 1.3-litre petrol engine combined with an electric motor.

Jeep says they will be capable of driving up to 31 miles on the battery alone, with a top pure-electric speed of 80mph.

In the Renegade, the powertrain will have a combined power output of either 190hp or 240hp, while the Compass will only come with the 240hp version.

Jeep claims CO2 emissions figures will be less than 50g/km.

Both models will be four-wheel drive, with the electric motor sending power to the rear wheels.

Jeep says this setup allows the two axles to be separated and for torque to be controlled in a more efficient way than with a mechanical system.

The new PHEVs will also feature a dedicated instrument cluster and infotainment screen, featuring information specific to hybrid driving.

UK market details and full specs are yet to be announced.
