Updated Kia Niro hybrid and plug-in hybrid go on sale

Date: 07 May 2019   |   Author: Sean Keywood

Facelifted versions of Kia's Niro hybrid and plug-in hybrid have gone on sale in the UK.

Both powertrains feature a 1.6-litre petrol engine and six-speed automatic gearbox, along with battery packs with a capacity of 1.56kWh in the hybrid, and 8.9kWh in the plug-in hybrid.

CO2 emissions figures are 99g/km for the hybrid and 31g/km for the plug-in hybrid, while the latter has a claimed pure electric driving range of 30 miles.

The hybrid is available in 2, 3 and 4 equipment grades, while the plug-in hybrid is available in 3 grade only.

Design changes with the facelift include new front and rear bumpers and redesigned headlights and taillights, while inside there's new trim for the dashboard and instrument panel.

There are redesigned 16in alloy wheels with 2 grade, and new 18in alloys with 3 and 4.

Gear shift paddles have also been added, as has an electronic parking brake.

Entry-level Niros come with an 8in infotainment touchscreen. 3 and 4 grade cars get a new 10.25in screen, with 4s also getting a 7in TFT instrument cluster (a 4.2in display is standard on lower models).

Another new feature is the UVO Connect telematics system, accessible via the car's touchscreen and the driver's smartphone, which offers live services, while the UVO App allows access to remote functions and provides diagnostics data.

Lane following assist is a newly available safety system, and a stop-and-go function has been added to the adaptive cruise control.

Prices are: £24,590 for the 2 hybrid, £26,770 for the 3 hybrid, £29,270 for the 4 hybrid, and £31,945 for the 3 plug-in hybrid.
