E.ON opens first UK ultra-fast EV charging site

Date: 23 October 2019   |   Author: Sean Keywood

Energy firm E.ON has opened its first 175kWh electric vehicle (EV) charging site in the UK.

Two chargers have been installed at Birmingham Armada, near Spaghetti Junction.

They are said to be capable of adding 100 miles of range to a compatible EV battery in 10 minutes, and support both CCS and CHAdeMO connectors.

Customers have the option of contactless or smartphone payment, using the E.ON Drive app, or logging onto eonevpay.co.uk for pay as you go access.

E.ON Drive UK director Hannah Collishaw said: "Driving an EV is fast becoming a decision of lifestyle, for which charging flexibility and choice are key.

"Drivers tell us they want to be able to plug in at work and at home, but it's also vital they can access a network of charge points across the country. And in today's fast-paced world, few can afford to idle for hours waiting for a full battery.

"This is about enhancing the experience of driving an EV in this country, driving down charging times and providing a choice of locations. Our charging network in Europe is expanding and I'm delighted to be now bringing it to the UK."
