New Volkswagen Golf unveiled

Volkswagen has revealed the new, eighth-generation version of its Golf lower-medium car.
Engine options will include: 90hp, 110hp, 130hp and 150hp petrols; 115hp and 150hp diesels; 110hp, 130hp and 150hp petrol mild hybrids; and 204hp and 245hp plug-in hybrids, though reportedly the 150hp diesel and 204hp plug-in hybrid won't be sold in the UK.
VW claims the diesels will produce up to 17% less CO2 than those from the outgoing model, while the mild hybrids consume about 10% less fuel than equivalent petrols.
Four equipment grades will be available - expected to be badged S, SE, SEL and R-Line in the UK.
Standard equipment across the range will include LED headlights and tail lights, keyless start, a 10.25in digital cockpit display, We Connect and We Connect Plus mobile online services and functions, a multifunction steering wheel and automatic air conditioning.
Standard safety equipment includes lane assist, a new turn-off assist function, and autonomous emergency braking.
Also standard is car-to-X functionality, allowing the new Golf to gather safety information from other vehicles within a radius of up to 800m and alert the driver.
The new Golf will also be available with a travel assist system, which allows it to be driven on motorways at speeds of up to 130mph (where legal) without the driver having to actively steer, accelerate or brake.
A head-up display will also be available as an option, as will a Harman Kardon sound system.
The new Golf is due to arrive early next year. Full UK specs and prices are yet to be confirmed.
