Facelifted Volvo XC90 now available as mild hybrid

Volvo has revealed an updated version of its XC90 large SUV, which is now available with a mild hybrid diesel powertrain.
The new powertrain, badged B5, pairs a 2.0-litre, 235hp diesel engine with a 48V battery, a kinetic energy recovery system and a integrated starter generator.
The system supplements the engine's performance when accelerating, and powers auxiliary functions such as the headlights and audio system.
Volvo claims this means up to 15% more fuel efficiency and fewer NOx emissions than the previous D5 diesel engine, and says the system will also be rolled out to petrol XC90s in the coming year.
Also as part of the facelift, the T8 plug-in hybrid XC90 has been given a bigger battery, meaning a pure-electric range increase from 21.7 miles to 28.6 miles.
The revised XC90 also features exterior styling updates, including a redesigned grille and lower front bumper, revised air intakes and new-look alloy wheels, while integrated roof rails and twin exhausts are now standard across the range.
Other standard equipment includes two USB ports, a 9in touchscreen with sat-nav, an electric tailgate, LED headlights, a rear parking camera, keyless entry and start, and a data SIM card, which provides access to up to 100GB of data for 12 months.
The revised XC90 is on sale now. Range prices start at £52,235, while the new B5 powertrain is available from £53,285 with the entry-level Momentum equipment grade.
