Diesel Mazda3 discontinued

Date: 01 October 2019   |   Author: Sean Keywood

The diesel version of the Mazda3 lower-medium car has been withdrawn from sale in the UK.

The 1.8-litre, 116hp Skyactiv-D powerplant has disappeared from the model's price list, and a Mazda spokesman confirmed that it had been withdrawn, saying that this was due to low customer demand.

The spokesman added that Mazda was still planning to continue the development of diesel power for future applications.

It's a swift demise for the diesel 3, with the latest generation of the model having only arrived in showrooms earlier this year.

The 3 is now available with a choice of two petrol engines - the 2.0-litre, 122hp Skyactiv-G, and the 2.0-litre, 180hp Skyactiv-X.

Mazda is still offering diesel engines in the UK with the Mazda6 upper-medium car, and with the CX-3 and CX-5 SUVs.
