Facelifted Mazda2 specs and prices revealed

Date: 01 October 2019   |   Author: Sean Keywood

Specs and prices for a revised version of the Mazda2 supermini have been announced, ahead of its arrival in UK showrooms in November.

Changes compared with the outgoing car include a new front grille with a mesh pattern, revised headlights and a redesigned rear bumper.

Inside, changes have been made to the dashboard trims, air vent louvres, door inserts and the instrument panel hood.

New front seats have also been fitted, and soundproofing has been improved.

The 2's suspension and steering have been adjusted with the aim of enhancing driver appeal, and the G-Vectoring Control Plus system now uses the car's brakes as well as the engine to control sideways movement.

Power comes from a 1.5-litre petrol engine, available with either 75hp or 90hp. The 75hp engine comes with a six-speed manual gearbox, while the 90hp engine comes with the manual or a six-speed automatic - the latter incurring a £2,100 premium.

Manual 2s come with a mild hybrid system.

Official combined fuel economy figures are 53.3mpg for manual cars, and 47.9mpg for the auto, while CO2 emissions are 95g/km for manual cars with 15in alloy wheels, 94g/km for cars with 16in alloys, and 118g/km for the auto.

Four equipment grades will be available - SE-L, SE-L Nav, Sport Nav and GT Sport Nav.

Standard equipment with the entry-level SE-L grade includes rear parking sensors, 15in alloys, LED headlights, climate control and cruise control.

Stepping up to SE-L Nav adds sat-nav via a 7in touchscreen, Apple Carplay and Android Auto connectivity, autonomous emergency braking, lane departure warning and lane keep assist.

Further equipment with Sport Nav includes 16in alloys, a gloss black grille treatment, rear privacy glass, a shark-fin antenna and a chrome exhaust trim.

Additional features of the range-topping GT Sport Nav grade include a reversing camera, leather seats, a colour head-up display, heated front seats and a heated steering wheel.

Prices are £15,795 for SE-L cars, £16,795 for SE-L Nav, £17,495 for Sport Nav and £18,295 for GT Sport Nav.
