Kia has announced specs and prices for the new, fourth-generation version of its Sorento SUV, which is on sale now.

The first model to be based on Kia's new midsize SUV platform, the new Sorento comes with two engine options at launch - a petrol conventional hybrid and a diesel.

The hybrid comes with a six-speed automatic gearbox, and the diesel comes with an eight-speed DCT auto, while all-wheel drive is standard across the range.

A plug-in hybrid powertrain is also set to join the range later this year.

Three equipment grades are available - 2, 3 and 4.

Seven seats are standard across the range, with remote folding and reclining for the second row, and all three rows of seats get USB charge ports, along with outlets for the dual-zone automatic air conditioning.

Also standard are roof rails, front and rear scuff plates, and LED technology for the headlights, daytime running lights, tail lights and fog lights.

Other standard equipment with the entry-level 2 grade includes 17in alloy wheels, automatic headlights and wipers, electric heated door mirrors, a 12.3in digital instrument cluster, an 8in touchscreen with DAB, Apple Carplay and Android Auto connectivity, a reversing camera, front and rear parking sensors and smart cruise control with stop and go functionality.

Standard safety features include seven airbags, lane follow assist, intelligent speed limit assist, trailer stability assist, downhill brake control and autonomous emergency braking including a multi-collision function.

Stepping up to 3 grade adds further equipment such as 19in alloys, bi-functional headlights, privacy glass, leather upholstery, eight-way power adjustable front seats, mood lighting, the UVO Connect telematics system, a larger 10.25in touchscreen, a wireless smartphone charger, a powered tailgate and the semi-autonomous Highway Driving Assist system.
