Second plug-in hybrid added to Volvo XC40 range

Date: 20 August 2020   |   Author: Sean Keywood

Volvo has made a second plug-in hybrid powertrain available with its XC40 SUV.

Badged the Recharge Plug-in Hybrid T4, it pairs a 129hp petrol engine with an 82hp electric motor, and comes with a 10.7kWh battery that allows a pure electric driving range of up to 27 miles.

It comes with seven-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive.

WLTP fuel economy and CO2 emissions figures are 134.5mpg and 47g/km respectively.

Joining the range alongside the existing T5 PHEV, the T4 model is available in R-Design and Inscription equipment grades, priced at £39,130 and £39,475 respectively. The first deliveries are expected in October.

Volvo has also announced new petrol mild hybrid engine options for the XC40, with the 2.0-litre, 197hp B4 and 2.0-litre, 250hp B5 replacing the previously available T4 and T5 petrol engines.

The new mild hybrids feature a 48V battery to support the engine.

The B4 is available with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, and the B5 is all-wheel drive only, with eight-speed automatic transmission standard on both.

The B4 is priced from £32,760, with the Momentum equipment grade, and the B5 is available from £37,865 as an R-Design model.
