Government opens consultation on petrol, diesel and hybrid ban

Date: 21 February 2020   |   Author: Illya Verpraet

The Government is now consulting on bringing forward the end of petrol and diesel car sales from 2040, and including hybrids in the ban.

The new proposed date is 2035, or even earlier if it is found that a faster transition is possible. You can read the full story on the internal combustion engine (ICE) ban in the February issue of Business Car.

Today's announcement states that the Government is interested in views from the public on the phase out date, the definition of what should be phased out, barriers to achieving the proposals, the impact of these ambitions on different sectors of industry and society, and what measures are required by government and others to achieve the earlier phase out date.
