Hyundai presents facelifted i30 ahead of Geneva launch

A facelifted version of the i30, Hyundai's Golf and Focus rival, is due to be presented at the Geneva motor show, but Hyundai has already released pictures and details of the mild hybrid powertrains.
As before the facelift, the i30 will be available as a 5-door hatchback, an estate, or a 'fastback', which is a 5-door hatchback with a sloping roofline.
The engine line-up gets some fairly substantial updates. The entry level engine remains the 1.0-litre petrol with 120hp. However, it is now available with either a six-speed manual or seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox where previously, only a manual was available.
The 120hp can also be fitted with a 48V mild hybrid system for better fuel economy. If paired with the manual gearbox, it can decouple and shut down the engine when coasting to save fuel.
The 1.6-litre diesel with 136hp now comes standard with the mild hybrid system. Like the petrol, it can be paired with either manual or auto transmissions.
Finally, there is a new 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine with 160hp. It, too, comes as standard as a mild hybrid and is available with a choice of gearboxes.
Inside, the Hyundai i30 gets improved connectivity, with a new 7in digital instrument cluster and a new 10.25in infotainment system appearing on the options list. From the summer, it will support wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto.
Visually, there are a host of tweaks ranging from new LED lights and a wider grille, to a number of bew wheel designs and colour options.
Finally, a number of new safety features make an appearance, including automatic lane keeping and automatic emergency braking when reversing.
