BVRLA sees membership growth in 2019

Date: 07 February 2020   |   Author: Illya Verpraet

The BVRLA closed 2019 with 2% more members than at the start of the year, counting a total 1,007 member organisations.

The vehicle rental and leasing association added a new 'fleet operator' category in 2019, which attracted some new members, while leasing broker member numbers reduced "due to consolidation in the sector".

The total fleet size of its members grew accordingly, to 5.1m vehicles - up 2% on 2018. 4.1m of those vehicles were cars, with the remainder made up of LCVs and HGVs.

The total number of business contract hire vehicles remained constant at 2.6m, with slightly fewer cars on fleet than in 2018, but slightly more commercial vehicles.

Both the short-term rental and personal leasing fleets increased in size. Short term rentals increased by 1%, to 480,000, but like with the business contract hire vehicles, that was mainly thanks to an increase in the commercial vehicle fleet, as the size of the rental car fleet dropped slightly.

Finally, personal leasing contracts did particularly well, the size of the fleet growing by 6% to over 2m vehicles.
